Power adidas Coaches

SPVC is happy to announce our affiliation with adidas.  As part of this affiliation, each of our power teams will now carry the “adidas” name.  Our power teams are coached to play the highest competition levels, travel further to tournaments, and play as often as possible. We believe with great coaching and competition these players will show tremendous growth and reach their highest potential. Our goal for these teams is to play against high level teams and work towards playing at Regional and National tournaments.

Martin Soyama

Head Coach, Power 17's adidas

Martin brings a wealth of experience to SPVC. Martin has been involved with Sacramento volleyball since moving from San Jose in 1991. His high school resume' includes Encina HS, Rocklin HS, Loretto HS and currently he is the head coach at El Camino HS. He has won Section titles in 96', 09', 11', 12'and 14'. In 2008 Martin was inducted into the Evening Optimist High School Coaching Hall of Fame. In 2009 and 2012 he was named Coach of the Year by the Sacramento Bee. Martin was also a Junior National qualifying coach with Carmichael Juniors. He has also coached with Nor Cal Select and SVVC. Martin most recently lead his 17's team to a National bid in Junior Nationals in 2014 and his 18's team to a bid in 2015. In 2015 Martin was named the California Coach's Association Volleyball Coach of the Year.

Kalani Pananganan

Head Coach, Power 16's adidas

With over 25 years of coaching and playing experience, Kalani has the knowledge, proven coaching technique and commitment to work with players to ensure the proper implementation and development of athletes. His volleyball coaching philosophy has helped hundreds of student-athletes develop volleyball and life skills.  He takes pride in watching players grow their love and passion for the game. Many continue to play in college, and several have began coaching their own teams. Kalani’s philosophy is based around John Wooden’s Pyramid of Success, creating good athletes and developing great people.

Amanda Bieber

Asst Coach, Power 16's adidas

Amanda has over 6 years of coaching, at a high school level and for different clubs in the Sacramento area. She had also played for over 12 years. After high school and club she played at Sierra College. Amanda also received a scholarship for a DII school in Dickinson, North Dakota. She has coached all ages and continues to grow. She enjoys seeing her kids mature onto the next level. Amanda still has unlimited passion for the game and hopes to carry that passion onto developing more great athletes. ​​

Tim Reilly

Head Coach, Power 15's adidas

​Tim Reilly provides a wealth of experience with more than 20 years of coaching at the juniors and high school level throughout the Sacramento region. Tim is currently the varsity head coach at Del Campo HS.

Kat Sullivan-Torrez

Head Coach, Power 14's adidas

Kathy (Kat) Sullivan-Torrez comes to Sac Performance with 27 years of coaching experience. She has had the opportunity to coach at the Professional, Div. 1, NAIA, Community College and High School levels. She is a former Division I setter and a USVBA All-American. She has had the opportunity to coach 4 AVCA All-Americans at the Community College level where many of her former players went on to continue their volleyball careers and education at the Div. 1, 2, 3 and NAIA levels. She is currently a professor of Kinesiology at American River College and Junior Varsity Coach at El Camino High School. Kat is also a double goal certified coach with the Positive Coaching Alliance.

David Ly

Head Coach, Power 13's adidas

David brings an unparalleled passion and talent for volleyball to SPVC. He started playing his senior year at Galileo High School and earned 2nd team all league honors as an outside hitter. He continued his playing career at Sac State where he played Libero and helped the team get to a top 20 national ranking and 3rd place finish in the NCCVL. David continues his 5th season of club coaching at SPVC. After a 1-year stint at Force Elk Grove, he became a valued member of our coaching staff. He is currently the junior varsity coach at Del Campo High.

Mark Harrison

Head Coach, Power 12's adidas

A double goal certified coach with the Positive Coaching Alliance, Mark brings over 25 years of coaching experience to SPVC.  Mark was the founder of the River City Volleyball Club (a club made up of St. Francis HS volleyball players), and helped current Sac State Women's VB Head Coach Ruben Volta start the High Voltage Volleyball Club in the mid 90’s. Mark has coached at both Jesuit and St Francis High School, and spent 4 years on the coaching staff of the Sac State Men's Volleyball Team.  Mark coached 3 years at St Ignatius Parish School (where the team won 3 consecutive PAL Championships), and is now in his 5th season as a Head Coach at SPVC.  As a player, Mark excelled at both the indoor and outdoor (2-man) level.  He earned a number of accolades while starring at Sacramento State, where he was a 3-Time All-American and MVP of the teams 1st National Championship.

Premier Coaches


Our Premier teams are coached to improve the skills of volleyball playing locally against like-minded talent. While they don't travel as often as Power teams, they are active and usually play 1-2 weekends per month. Practice schedules and curriculum are dedicated to getting the most out of the players and teaching fundamentals to improve. 

Molly Hanrahan

Head Coach, 17/18 Molly

Molly is in her 6th year with SPVC and has a Master’s in Coaching and Athletic Administration and brings 15 years of volleyball coaching experience at the club, high school, and collegiate levels. Growing up around the game of volleyball with family members as coaches, her organized playing career started at the age of 10. Molly started playing club at the age of 11 with Sacramento Sideout. In high school, she played for the clubs founded by SPVC coach Mark Harrison, with River City VBC and High Voltage VBC. After 4 years of volleyball at St. Francis High School, 3 on varsity, Molly played volleyball for SPVC coach Kat Sullivan-Torrez at American River College.  From there she attended Briar Cliff University as a 2 sport scholarship athlete in volleyball and basketball.  As a coach Molly began her career as the graduate assistant at American River College for 2 years, training underneath Coach Kat. She spent 7 years at St. Francis High School as the varsity assistant coach, and in those same years, 3 years as the head frosh coach, and 2 years as head JV coach. Molly then spent 2 years as the assistant coach at Cosumnes River College. Most recently Molly was the associate head coach at Folsom Lake College where she has been the past 3 years. Molly is currently the head coach at Folsom Lake College.  In addition to her club coaching experience at SPVC she coached at East Volleyball Club in Sioux City, Iowa, as well as 4 years with Force VBC.

Eugene Felise

Head Coach, 16 Eugene

Eugene brings many years of club experience to Sac Performance. He as been a head coach at Nor Cal Select and Sac Valley VBC for the past 8 years, at both the 16's and 14's age levels. 

Margaret Sotoa

Head Coach, 15/16 and 14 Margaret

Margaret has coached many successful volleyball teams for 22 years. She was a coach at St. Philomene School for 7 years and has coached at clubs and with Curtis an additional 15 years. Margaret is currently a volleyball coach at Inderkum High School.

Jim Igel

Head Coach, 16 and 12 Jim

This is Jim's 19th year coaching volleyball and 4th season at SPVC. After watching his daughter play volleyball, he learned that teaching fundamental skills is critical for improvement and success in area or premier level teams. His training includes USA Volleyball Cap I, Impact, Gold Medal Squared, and he's a member of American Volleyball Coaches Association. Natomas Charter School- Leading Edge coach for the last 10 years. He coaches two middle school teams, while the older team has been league champions the last five years.

Melissa "Missy" Watts

Head Coach, 14 Melissa

"Missy" played 4 years of volleyball at Ponderosa High School and helped win a Section Title her Senior year. She played club volleyball and one year at American River before transferring to Sac State on scholarship and played 4 years under legendary coach Debby Colberg. After playing through college, Missy coached at Sac Valley Volleyball Club for 3 years, before coaching at Ponderosa High School for two seasons. Over the last 3 years Missy has coached the 12's and 13's team at SPVC as well as the Freshman volleyball team at El Camino High School. Melissa is an ASD Teacher for San Juan Unified School District and personal trainer.

Lexi Fowler

Head Coach, 13 Lexi

Lexi is an SPVC alumni and has been coaching volleyball 5+ years. She's best known for her passion and enthusiasm both on and off the court, bringing skill and fun to the players. Her mission as a coach is to develop volleyball skills and knowledge in players while fostering a love for the sport.

Mark Van Allen

Head Coach, 13 Mark

Mark's been coaching for eight years in the Sacramento area and currently a volleyball coach for Del Campo High School. Previously he coached for three years at Will Rogers Middle School winning two championships and also coached for Victory Christian School and Saint John the Evangelist. The last five years he's been coaching club volleyball in the region including the last two years as a 14-1 head coach.

Curtis Gee - Club President

Curtis has 30 years of high school coaching and club volleyball experience. He has dedicated his life to the development of volleyball in the Sacramento region. He has been the head varsity coach at Ponderosa HS where he won his first section title. From there, he served as the head coach of Rio Americano HS, Oakridge HS, Loretto HS and he currently serves as the program director of El Camino High School. In 2001 Curtis received the prestigious Gary Colberg Award for his contributions to youth volleyball. In 2002 he was inducted into the Evening Optimist High School Coaching Hall of Fame. Curtis continues to serve the Sacramento volleyball community every day. Send me an email

Former Hornet volleyball player Ed Jackson completed his third season as Sacramento State’s indoor assistant coach in 2017, and will also serve as the Hornet beach team’s co-head coach for the third straight year in the spring of 2018.During Jackson’s three seasons with the indoor program, Sacramento State has combined for a 72-29 overall record and a 40-8 mark in league play. The Hornets have won at least 20 games three consecutive years, posted back-to-back Big Sky South Division championships (2017, 2016), and have not lost a Big Sky regular season home match during Jackson's tenure (a span of 24 straight wins).
